Acquaintance with the activities of the packaging department of the Center for Logistics Studies and Research of Imam Hossein University (AS)

With the end of the imposed war and the return of peace and the beginning of the era of construction, Imam Hossein University (AS) assumed a new role. He quickly highlighted the new role of this fledgling institution in the era of construction.

It should be mentioned that military institutions in all countries of the world, in exchange for the budgets they have and according to their existential necessity, concentrate a major part of their activities in the fields of science, research, engineering and construction during peacetime, and sometimes The developments and achievements of this sector go beyond similar civilian fields. At that time, the Vice-Chancellor of Logistics achieved achievements in the same framework by forming the packaging group.

Mainly, the military forces are faced with a very large volume of logistics items to support the assigned missions, and the packaging of these items is very important in different dimensions, in this regard, considering the conditions and limitations in the field of packaging information. In 1372, the Logistics Department (Waqt) started designing and creating a packaging group.

The activity of the packaging group started in 1372 with the development of a scheduled program. In the beginning, due to the lack of university courses in this profession of the industry, many problems were encountered such as the lack of scientific and expert resources. For this purpose, data collection started with the following activities:

1- Identification of industrial research centers, scientific associations and educational institutions related to different aspects of packaging in Iran and the world.

2- Identification, communication and cooperation with experienced people in the field of packaging.

3- Identifying, collecting and preparing available scientific resources from the libraries of technical colleges and research centers and government organizations

4- Identification of all producers and manufacturers of packaging materials, supplies and equipment in the country.

By identifying and collecting scientific resources in the 70s, it became clear that the scientific information on packaging was very limited and scattered, but with the seriousness and expert work of the packaging group, resources were prepared and compiled that can be used by manufacturers, distributors and customers of packages. It was closed.

Expert studies and research led to the classification of packaging science in the following subjects.

1- The importance of packaging; Advantages and disadvantages of using it. 2- The economic role of packaging in maintaining and preventing waste. 3- Identification of packaging materials and their characteristics. 4- Division of packaging machines and equipment based on their application. 5- Examining product packaging processes. 6- Identification of common types of packages inside and outside. 7- How to make and produce all kinds of packages. 8- Identification of new product packaging technologies. 9- The importance and role of the designer in packaging. 10- Transportation and packaging. 11- Packaging and its role in product storage. 12- Classification of national and foreign packaging standards. 13- Packaging rules. 14- Packaging and environment. 15- Packaging and recycling of materials. 16- Useful life of packages and destructive factors affecting packaging. 17- Quality control and control tests. 18- The role of printing and labeling in packaging.

After identifying, collecting, studying and researching the topics and science of packaging, books with the following titles were published in the logistics research and studies center:

In addition to preparing and collecting scientific resources, software has been prepared to search for information and choose the right product package.

In this group, various research projects have been carried out in the military and civilian sector, and now, by using this research, the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology was able to publish the first quarterly magazine ((Packaging Science and Technology)) with Scientific degree - Extension at the Logistics Studies and Research Center of Imam Hossein University (AS) with the ability of scientific professors in fields related to packaging (such as: design, graphics, printing, industries, polymer, wood and paper industries, food industries and agriculture) and receive printing.

Another activity of this group is to deal with packaging training and holding specialized packaging courses at the Logistics Studies and Research Center, the names of some of these courses are as described in the following table:
