The paper recycling industry consumes a significant amount of fresh water in its processes. Complete or major treatment of generated effluent is always one of the priority and policies of industries. In this study, aluminum electrodes with dimensions of 2*150*20 mm were used and by adding hydrogen peroxide to the effluent and performing electro-fenton reaction, the residual concentration of pollutant was measured by spectrophotometer. After obtaining the optimum values of voltage, agitator speed, reaction time, pH, hydrogen peroxide concentration, molar ratio of hydrogen peroxide to iron sulfate and distance between electrodes, the percentage of COD removal was calculated. COD reduction efficiency percent for electro-fenton reaction was 95.50% also the optimized conditions were as follows, voltage: 6 volts, pH: 2, stirring speed: 300 rpm, concentration of hydrogen peroxide: 1000 mg/L, distance between electrodes:3 cm, molar ratio of hydrogen peroxide to iron sulfate:1/4 and reaction time: 90 minutes. The results showed that the electro-fenton method can be used successfully for wastewater treatment of paper recycling industries.
